Congressman Joe Courtney’s email on Connecticut shipping industry jobs is misleading. He takes credit for 22,000 jobs and announces an award of federal dollars to a private firm.
The congressman uses this unsubstantiated figure and does not clarify where it came from. Electric Boat employees know there’s a lot less of them nowadays; businesses supporting the industry are disappearing. His numbers don’t match our reality.
The congressman also takes credit for securing another taxpayer-funded $1.4 million grant to a local company that plans to employ only 100 people — not 1,000, not 10,000, just 100. Consider the cost per job of this grant, then consider all the other free grants he champions. Think of the cost to us.
Wouldn’t it be great to see a line at the end of the congressman’s emails that goes like this: Thank you to the hard working taxpayers of District 2?
